Just 3 weeks until our Open Studios! (27th - 30th June) Today’s spotlight is on Roger Lawrence (Studio ‘J’): “A good teacher at primary school ran a class where I drew a distant house, seen through strong trees in black ink, later framed & hung at home. Secondary school art was first year only. I painted an elegant building for my boarding house art competition. It surprised everyone including me. Occasional pictures followed through National Service & university. I retired from music & maths teaching, attended classes & now produce work monthly. I had excellent watercolour tuition from Ashley Bryant & paint with his Millenium Hall Group, Great Saling Tues 10am – 3pm. Dabbled in acrylic & pastel, but mostly in watercolour, with pen & wash efforts in a permanent garden room studio.” For information on all the participating artists, follow this link to our webpage: https://dunmowartgroup.blogspot.com/p/open-studios.html

Loose florals with Louise Man Art Starting with composition and a pencil sketch we followed with watercolour and learnt how to put in a feint background to emphasise the white areas. We then added interesting details with pencils or pastels. Ours are very much in the ‘in work’ phase but we have made a good start. Enjoy the gallery of our work so far. Thank you Louise!

Less than 4 weeks until our Open Studios! (27th - 30th June) Enjoy the spotlight on Daniel Hurst (Studio ‘E’ in the Dourdan Pavilian): “The paintings and models that I am exhibiting are original works built and painted by myself. I paint with acrylic on canvas based on ideas that I have. The plastic models I make and paint are manufactured by Games Workshop, Airfix, Tamiya and Revell. My interest in model making and painting originated from my own imagination and desire to create alternative worlds to the one we experience as reality. Reality is dull and boring, full of legislative and social rules that make little sense to me. I feel that I make more sense of an alternative reality into which I can escape once in a while.” For information on all the participating artists, follow this link to our webpage: https://dunmowartgroup.blogspot.com/p/open-studios.html

Just over 4 weeks until our Open Studios! (27th - 30th June) Enjoy the spotlight on Linda Morris (Studio ‘C’): “My name is Linda Morris and I’m a ceramic artist and teacher whose studio is based in Takeley. Trained back in the 70’s, my personal work took a back seat to my teaching career until 2017, when my passion to encourage others to be creative and relax whilst enjoying making things with clay led me to go self-employed. Primarily using hand building technique's, this gave me time to develop and expand my own creative side, discovering (amongst other things) my enjoyment in making hares. I am a member of Anglian Potters and I also sell through local galleries.” For information on all the participating artists, follow this link to our webpage: https://dunmowartgroup.blogspot.com/p/open-studios.html

Just over 4 weeks until our Open Studios! (27th - 30th June) Enjoy the spotlight on Peter Morris (Studio ‘C’): “I am a ceramic artist based in Essex UK making mostly sculptural and sometimes functional work. As part of the first cohort at Clay College in Stoke on Trent I intended to develop as a functional ware maker. However, through my studies I found myself increasingly drawn to more sculptural & abstract forms & ideas. My current work, Labyrinth-Covered forms are made to be held and touched, making the contrasting textures as important as colour. Labyrinth patterns are often associated with pilgrimage and reflection and my work invites the holder/viewer to take themselves on a journey across the whole piece in an experience of sight and touch.” For information on all the participating artists, follow this link to our webpage: https://dunmowartgroup.blogspot.com/p/open-studios.html
