Open Studios - Tom Deakins

Tom paints exclusively in oils on canvas panels. Many of his subjects are to be found in the landscape local to Dunmow, with occasional forays further afield. He has been a member of ‘The Arborealists’ group since 2015 and has taken part in several site-specific projects and exhibitions with them. He, also, shows work at the Chappel Galleries near Colchester. Tom studied Fine Art at Newcastle University and taught.  He now works part-time as a gardener. His work is small scale, highly detailed & develops slowly in many layers of paint. You can see more of Tom's work as her takes part in our inaugural Open Studios event.

Open Studios - Audrey Bowling

This is Winter’s First Breath by Audrey Bowling. Audrey is a mixed-media artist working with an emphasis on collage. The shapes and colours of the landscape provide inspiration, alongside the materials and found objects she uses. This inspiration leads in many directions, including abstract, seeing things from a different perspective and bringing other sensations into play. She is also fascinated by found objects, especially those rusty washers, keys, bits of wire, etc discarded by society. She uses them in her work to give balance & texture, whilst giving them a life beyond their original purpose.  Alongside this, there will be examples of her weaving to view during Dunmow Art Group's Open Studios this weekend.

Open Studios - Christian Runacres

This is Artichokes by Christian Runacres.  Art was not considered a good career choice but having learnt to do silk printing whilst in New Zealand Christian decided on returning to do a Fine Art course at The Open College of Art followed by Colchester Institute. Since then, she has taught art. Now she follows her own path painting in oils, acrylic & water colours. Visit Christian to see and buy her work during Dunmow Art Group's Open Studios this weekend.

DAG Open Studios - Rosamond Ulph

This is Names of Various Funghi by Rosamond Ulph. Rosamond is a long-standing member of Dunmow Art Group and will be sharing studio space with Christian Runacres for the Open Studios weekend of 20 - 21 May.  Rosamond is both a botanical artist and landscape painter. Her work includes oil paintings and calligraphic maps of English fieldnames which are locally researched from tithe maps at the Record Office. They are original watercolour works but limited editioned giclee prints of these and others will be for sale along with cards relating to this subject, and English weather including The Shipping Forecast, The Beaufort Wind Scale, Clouds and States of the Sea.

Open Studios- Louise Man

Self-taught artist Louise paints landscapes & floral still life. Inspired by big skies & rural North Essex, she paints ‘en plein air’ using quick, broad, brush strokes. As well as oils, Louise paints in watercolours, enjoying its fluidity & transparency. She sketches regularly in charcoal & pastels. Louise reproduces her watercolour floral paintings on tea towels, napkins & lampshades. DAG committee member Louise is a regular tutor for watercolour classes & helps run the calendar of visiting artists & the annual exhibition. Louise was a ‘wildcard’ entrant on the 2018 & 19 Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year. Louise Man will be taking part in Dunmow Art Group's Open Studios event.  See where she creates her vibrant interpretation of local scenes.
