🌷 Mandy Whittick will be delivering our classes for the next couple of weeks, Monday 12th May & Monday 19th May. 🌷 🌷 For Monday 12th May's class we will be using acrylics to paint tulips. 🌷 There are some references for you below - please print an image to work from. You are of course welcome to bring your own image to work on. Please gesso your board or canvas then paint with a bright colour of your choice (not dark) before the class to save time. You will need: A prepared board or canvas A selection of acrylic brushes both round and flat Palette knife for mixing Acrylic paints Kitchen towel A large water pot Desk easel if you have one A wet pallet - Mandy uses a tray with paper towels and parchment paper Of course you're welcome to do your own subject. Don't forget to bring your own mug for tea/coffee. ☕️ All are welcome to attend: £1 for members and £5 for non members. Classes are held in Foakes Hall. 🎨

Our second and final week with the lovely Louise Man doing a still life in watercolour. Here are someworksin progress. 

Watercolour with Louise Man Monday 28 April

For Monday's class with Louise Man (Monday 28th April, 1pm till 3pm - Foakes Hall, Dunmow)

Louise would like to do a still life watercolour workshop. 

You will need to bring a few ordinary, still life objects with you. It might be a collection of small vases, a bottle, small pots and jars etc and also something to place them on, such as a tea towel with a pattern. The items should be different heights, so something tall, medium and small, and also varying shapes, such as tall, long or round. You might want to bring something round, like an orange or lemon. You can bring flowers too if you like.

Louise will focus on capturing light and shadow effectively, mastering wet-in-wet techniques without losing control and maintaining crisp colours. Louise has provided a few images of paintings she has done with a 'still life' feel about them. These are attached.

You should bring the same materials as before:

Watercolour paper, 300 gsm. 

Tape and a board if you want to tape it down. 

Watercolour brushes, Louise likes to use a squirrel mop brush. 

Pencil and rubber

Watercolour paints

Water holder

Paper towel

An Evening with Joe Charman

A wonderfully entertaining evening with Joe Charman. Learning to loosen up and keep the contrast. A landscape with a moody sky. We look forward to seeing the final finished version. 

A reminder that there is no class on Monday, but we are looking forward to the following: We have Acrylic Artist Joe Charman joining us on Wednesday 16th April in the evening for a demonstration to the Dunmow Art Group Joe will be demonstrating painting a rural landscape in acrylics at the Talberd Room, Foakes Hall, Great Dunmow, on Wednesday 16th April from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Joe has been an artist all his life, always exploring a wide variety of subject matter and finding total fascination with the endless approaches to painting. He paints landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, portraits, murals, and everything in between, predominantly with oils and acrylics. He is inspired to incorporate new techniques and perspectives as his painting journey continues. Over the years, requests for increasingly larger paintings has led to his ultimate love within art of painting "BIG"! Whatever the theme, he loves the painting process and feels a sense of total completeness when painting. Joe Says: “To me, a blank canvas represents limitless creative potential and makes me feel like a child on Christmas morning.” The painting demonstration costs £1 for members of Dunmow Art Group and £5 for non-members. Dunmow Art Group has a long history of supporting artists and art lovers in Dunmow and the surrounding area and has a regular programme of weekly art meetings and monthly visiting artists. A lovely afternoon with Louise Man Art painting Spring flowers using watercolours. 🌱🌷🌸🌱 Enjoy the burst of colour in our gallery 🩷❤️🧡💛💜💙🩵💚 ‼️IMPORTANT REMINDER‼️: There are NO Dunmow Art Group meetings for the next three weeks. We return for another session with Louise on Monday 28th April. 🎨

 

On Monday we have the lovely Louise Mann joining us with Watercolours and the theme will be flowers. Louise will be with us for two classes. (Monday 31st March & Monday 28th April) Monday 31st March - 1pm till 3pm - Foakes Hall, Great Dunmow. £1 for members and £5 for non members. Louise has asked if you could bring along some flowers in a vase or jar if possible, but Louise will be bringing a bunch of tulips and daffodils with her. Louise is also going to try and print some images of Elizabeth Blackadder’s watercolour flowers as Louise loves her style of painting. And Louise is going to try and paint the flowers flat so from an aerial perspective and another perhaps from a vase or jar or two, which is why it would be great if there is a vase and jars available. Louise has asked if you could bring along: Watercolour paper, 300gsm cold or hot pressed Brushes: a squirrel mop brush and a rigger brush Pot for water Paper towel Watercolour paints Pencil and rubber Mixing plates

 

The Dunmow Showcase is back this year on Saturday 26th April 2025 at St Mary's Church, Dunmow, CM6 2AE. It is a FREE day, showcasing what Dunmow has to offer. The Dunmow Art Group has a table at the event and we hope you can pop in and support this fantastic event! We will also have some of our artists doing LIVE painting/sketching. Come along and say hi to us! 👋🏼

 

Dunmow Art Group have had a fabulous four weeks with David Pasfield teaching us how to use watercolours to create fresh vibrant colours. ✨We ended on a beautiful note as we finished our bluebell woods (seen in the gallery attached). Thank you David - I think I can speak for everyone when I say how much we enjoyed learning from you! 🎨

 

Monday 24th March is our 4th and final week with Artist David Pasfield and he will be finishing his step-by-step class on painting a bluebell wood in watercolours.
