Dunmow Art Group enjoyed three hours of tuition, using charcoal to get a portrait likeness, from Paul Berryman today. Paul explained how to look for shapes, shadows and not to go into detail too early. Another great tip was to create a graded chart so you can see what your charcoal/pencils/graphite is capable of achieving. π€π©Άπ€ Thank you Paul - we look forward to next week when we can put all your advice into practise! Enjoy our works in progress attached. π€π©Άπ€

The next two Monday classes are with Paul Berryman - ‘Getting a portrait likeness’ (using charcoal) Starting Monday 1st September - 12-3pm (please note this is a 3 hour class) Talberd Room, Foakes Hall, Great Dunmow, CM6 1DG (Members Entry Fee is £1.00 Guest & Non Member Fee - £10.00) Please find below details from Paul for the classes and please REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR OWN MUG FOR A CUPPA ******************************************** To complete the exercises we'll concentrate on all using the same picture to start with, which will be one attached. Please can everyone bring an A4 printout of the attached image labeled: Paul Berryman - Headshot - lady wearing a 1940's style hat - Jane. As for materials, please bring the following if possible: Favourite drawing media - namely pencil, charcoal pencil, rubber - anything is fine, just nothing in colour - all we do will be black/dark onto white paper. I'll have loads of charcoal with me, but pencils are better for the workshopping elements. An A3 drawing board and clips (I'll have some boards, but not enough) I'll bring white A3 paper, I have loads. ********************************************* Paul would like to cover most of the learning elements in week 1, then in week 2 everyone will choose a picture of a loved one, or someone famous, working together to make the chosen image using the techniques shared - with Paul on hand to offer advice. Hope to see you all there! ☕️ π¨ π«
