One Month To Go

Only one month until the Dunmow Art Group Exhibition.

You will be able to meet the artists behind the artwork and talk to them about it. Find out how they create their artworks and what inspires them.

For the first time we have invited a few other local artists to join us, so you will have an even greater variety of art to view.

In response to a number of requests, we will be opening on Sunday this year, which will give you more time to view at your leisure in a less crowded environment.

Eyes with Fabienne Hanley

The first week with Fabienne Hanley was spent concentrating on eyes.  It was great to see so many people.  First we sketched straight on with reflected light and then in profile. Finally making it look more realistic.  Next week is half term,  so the following week on 20th February Fabienne will continue,  but this time in colour. We will also have some life drawing with Julie Arnall on Wednesday 22nd at 7.30pm.

Some examples from this week's class below.

Portraits Workshop with Fabienne Hanley

Starting ne t week, local portrait artist Fabienne Hanley is to lead a four-week portraits workshop at Dunmow Art Group.

The two-hour workshops will start on Monday 6th February 2023 at 1pm at the Talberd Room in the Foakes Hall, Great Dunmow. The cost is £5 per session for non-members and free for members of Dunmow Art Group.  The workshops will focus on different methods of sketching and painting realistic, live portraiture. First, Fabienne will look at the realisation of different parts of a face according to expression and pose. This will lead to the drawing and painting of a whole face concentrating on representing likeness with the model.

An artist and former French teacher – originally from Dijon, France – Fabienne receives commissions for her portraits. Her portrait classes will use sketching in pencil, watercolours and oils.

As well as offering workshops for members and non-members, Dunmow Art Group runs a programme of talks and demonstrations and holds an annual exhibition, being held this year on 22nd and 23rd April 2023.  Those interested in coming along are asked to bring their own materials.  For further information on the portrait workshops in February or how to join Dunmow Art Group please contact dunmowartgroup@gmail.com.

Bruce Ronaldson from Sketch to Composition

Many thanks to Bruce Ronaldson for a fascinating talk and demonstration for Dunmow Art Group this evening.

We gained valuable insight into his working process, including his preparatory brainstorming of inspirational pictures from his extensive, impressive knowledge of art history. He shared how he chooses components and principles from this,  along with elements of the view to bring about a cohesive composition. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and enlightening evening.
